ForrestPerkins, a distinct studio of Perkins Eastman, is seeking a hospitality focused Interior Architectural Designer for our Dallas studio. The Senior Interior Architectural Designer has overall responsibility for the conceptual development for the project(s). ForrestPerkins is known for the design of luxury hotels, resorts and multi-residential properties worldwide. Together, ForrestPerkins | Perkins Eastman is a Top Ten Hospitality Giants firm.

The Interior Architectural Designer has the ability and responsibility to conceptualize the project in coordination with the Senior Interior Designer, helps set the initial design direction for the project, and works in collaboration with the Senior Interior Designer and Principal in Charge and makes critical aesthetic decisions throughout the project while integrating input from client and operator. The Senior Interior Architectural Designer also has the responsibility to lead the project team whether this is specific to the FF&E side or the whole team including the interior architecture. This leadership responsibility will include task management to reach the end goal. It may also include team planning/ staffing, financial reviews, billing, if the Senior Designer is also the Project Manager for the project. The Senior Interior Architectural Designer will report to their project manager and Principal in Charge of the project. The Interior Designer is responsible for accuracy in information prepared to ensure the success of the project.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading, collaborating and reviewing the design narrative and design graphics for concept presentation materials.
- Leads and/or works in tandem with Interior Designer and Project Architect to space plan and design the interior architectural envelope.
- Has strong ability to sketch to convey design ideas to clients.
- Reviews and understands with professional proficiency detailed construction documents including floor plans, elevations and sections, electrical details, finish schedules, furniture floor plans, FF&E specifications, finish boards, materials and finishes to determine compliance in quality, design, and codes. Leads team to complete such documents.
- Oversees completion of FF&E design & documentation based on project criteria, budget, program, and standards.
- Responsible for internal presentation of project design materials to V.P in charge and/ or senior leadership review.
- Oversees FF&E specification throughout process, review and approve FF&E purchase orders (if necessary), and maintain budget for all phases of the project interiors.
- Senior Designer is responsible for full review of FF&E specifications before they are issued to client or operator.
- Leads quality control reviews for projects to confirm documents are meeting ForrestPerkins, client, and operator’s standards.
- In coordination with Project Architect, the Interior Architectural Designer is responsible for review of project documents and accuracy prior to issuance to AOR, Client and/ or operator.
- Understand the components of construction drawings and specifications from AOR and other consultants and has ability to review such documentation and ensure that elements are coordinated within ForrestPerkins documents, as necessary. Closely coordinate with consultants and provide documentation to them, as necessary, to alert them to coordination elements they need to resolve/ document.
- Coordinates with design team in review furniture installation plans and shop drawings for content and accuracy and insure that they are fully coordinated with all pertinent consultant drawings.
- Prime interface with the client, operator and consultants with regard to design issues, leads presentations and the like. Responsible for communicating with owner, consultants and operator in a timely manner.
- Responsible to communicate in a complete and timely manner, all client comments or directives and insure that they are reflected in the design and documentation.
- Communicates directly with the Principal In Charge regard to client directives and major design issues and prompts/ leads internal design reviews during the design process, prior to presentation to the client.
- Attends and/or directs on-site meetings with owner, consultants and contractor inclusive of construction review and FF&E installation, as necessary.
- Prepares accurate timelines, task lists, and project schedules.
- Identify additional service opportunities and present them to the project manager.
- Help establish staffing and project plan needs and coordinate with the project manager.
- Maintains relationships with existing clients and nurture with potential clients.
- Participates in monthly project Financial Reviews and is responsible to company for financial status of project.
- Has a thorough understanding of hotel brands in the 4-5-star range.
- Has mastered a working knowledge of brand standards and proven ability to execute them.
- Mentors junior staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree – from a 4-year CIDA accredited Interior Design program or equivalent
- Minimum of 15 years of master planning experience, hotels, casinos, resorts.
- NCIDQ certification or licensed architect
- Technology: MS Office Proficient, Photoshop Proficient, Auto CAD- Proficiency Preferred, Revit- Proficiency Preferred and/ or basic knowledge, Excellent hand sketching abilities, Illustrator- Basic Knowledge, Sketch Up- Basic Knowledge
- Experience in writing FF&E specifications, FF&E matrices, and budgeting
- Possesses knowledge of building codes and the ADA
- Review and understand with basic proficiency detailed construction documents including floor plans, elevations and sections, electrical details, finish schedules, furniture floor plans, FF&E specifications, finish boards, materials and finishes to determine compliance in quality and design work with team to complete such documentation and assist in coordination with other consultant’s documents
- Strong presentation skills
- Space planning & hand sketching
- Ability to work with Architect and have a thorough understanding of architectural interior design
- Must have the ability to take design from sketches into schematic design for a handoff to a team to develop a buildable set of drawings.

The Opportunity: The Intermediate Interior Designer will work closely with other designers and architects on the project teams to which they are assigned to design, document, and execute the project through to installation. The Interior Designer will either work alone or with senior and junior designers to select and document furniture, finishes, and fixtures. They will also work with the design team to envision, design, and document the interior architectural envelope. They are responsible for the accuracy of their own work and the work of junior designers and interns to ensure the success of the
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works with the collective Project team to envision the story and design for the project. This transcends into the documentation of narrative and design graphics for concept presentation materials
- Assemble fabrics, finishes, and selections for review and use in the project
- Designs custom carpet, fabric schemes, furniture selection, and custom furniture
- Prepares color boards and other presentation materials; Graphic InDesign formats and Physical board format
- Prepares space planning and furniture layouts
- Works with the design team to craft the interior architectural envelope to align with the concept story
- Responsible for writing FF&E specifications; assembling information about selections, preparing detailed drawings of the furniture for integration in specifications, preparing and issuing of specifications and revisions under the direction of the Senior Interior Designer
- Works with design and architectural team to prepare drawing sets, and document interior architectural design in construction documents, including floor plans, RCPs, interior elevations, and details.
- Prepares schedules relative to the interior design including colors & materials, decorative lighting, bath accessories, door hardware, plumbing fixtures, and equipment.
- Reviews and approves shop drawings and samples (both FF&E related and contractor related)
- Coordinates with the client, contractor, and project team, as appropriate per project
- Responsible to review and conform to ForrestPerkins, Client, and Operator Standards
- Assists with purchasing projects, if necessary
- Attends site meetings with owner, consultants, and contractor inclusive of FF&E installation, as directed by PM or Senior Designer
- Responsible for internal presentation of project design materials to senior leadership for review and participation in the presentation of project design to clients
- Coordinate rendering development
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree – from a 4 year CIDA accredited Interior Design program or B. Arch or M.Arch degree
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years of hospitality or multifamily design experience
- NCIDQ certification or preparing to test; sitting for a test is highly encouraged
- Revit Proficient + Experience in an office setting (rendering plug-ins a plus)
- In Design and/or Affinity Publisher Proficient
- Photoshop and/or Affinity Photo Proficient
- AutoCAD – Basic knowledge to proficiency
- Sketch Up – Basic knowledge to proficiency and/or equivalent program
- Experience in hospitality or multifamily design
