The Plaza Pioneer Park Hotel in El Paso inhabits a historic building that was originally completed in 1930 as Conrad Hilton’s first high-rise hotel. Business tycoon Paul Foster purchased the abandoned property and restored it to its original splendor, reopening in April 2020 with 130 rooms and suites. The renovation preserved the historic ballroom, atrium, and meeting spaces while infusing a modern, border-inspired aesthetic. The lobby has become a vibrant bar and restaurant, and Elizabeth Taylor’s former penthouse now serves as a chic rooftop bar. Pueblo Deco influences are evident throughout, blending modern luxury with West Texas artistry through the use of rich walnut paneling and built-ins, velvet and mohair upholstery, warm brass accents, and hand-tooled leather. Public spaces feature floating mahogany ceiling panels and teardrop light fixtures, and they showcase local culture with historical books, antique Mexican paintings, and locally commissioned artwork. The design reflects El Paso’s dynamic border culture and emphasis on social gatherings.
